2nd Best City To Live In U.S. Nestled At The Heart Of GA

This Georgia town is not only the second best city to live in the U.S., but it is also the 29th best city for livability globally.

ATLANTA, GA — Topping major cities, like Chicago and Miami, Atlanta has been named the second best place to live in the U.S.

The Economist Intelligence Unit released its annual Global Liveability Index 2024, which ranked its top 10 cities to reside, per CNBC.

At No. 1, Honolulu topped the national list; but, globally, Atlanta secured the No. 29 spot, according to CNBC.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, in an enthusiastic Facebook post, reacted to the big news.

"Beating out other big cities like New York, (Los Angeles) and San Francisco, Atlanta is really making a name for itself as a top spot for livability. Our city’s rapid growth and booming industries, from transportation to technology to film/TV production, make it a thriving metropolis," Dickens wrote in the post.

"Our beautiful neighborhoods, thriving restaurant and art scenes, being named the best place to start a business in 2023, there’s so much to be excited about. Plus, with Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest airport and the BeltLine, we’re always well-connected and full of opportunities. Let’s continue to keep moving Atlanta forward."

Atlanta is home to several known attractions, such as the Fox Theatre, and hosts the headquarters for multiple corporations, including Coca-Cola, Chick-fil-A and Delta Air Lines.

In September 2023, metro Atlanta was named by LinkedIn as the best place to start a business.

The EIU report looked at stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. International cities are examined for their livability, CNBC reported.

Each city could gain a maximum of 100 points. It is unknown how many points Atlanta garnered.

Honolulu may be the best in the U.S., but CNBC said Vienna, Austria was regarded as the world's best place to live. On the global list, New York slid into No. 70 while Los Angeles peaked at No. 58, CNBC reported.

The top 10 cities in which to live in the U.S. are as follows:

  1. Honolulu, Hawaii
  2. Atlanta
  3. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  4. Seattle, Washington
  5. Washington D.C.
  6. Chicago, Illinois
